There are two Sunday School classes, one for the pre-school age children and one for the 5-7 year olds.  The children go straight to the Parish Centre at 10 o’clock, through the door from the Church. The lessons are age related and the stories and activities follow the theme of the Church’s year. They return to the Church for a blessing at Communion.

We have regular Music Sundays before the Family Service each month to learn a new song. The Junior Church Group joins the Sunday School on this Sunday and the Music Director or a member of the choir leads the singing.

The Junior Church Group is for young people aged 7 and above, including post confirmation.  The group leaves church for the choir vestry after the readings and comes back in time for the Peace. Learning is based on the readings for the Church’s year, and includes discussions, role play and art work.  Our aim is to help the young people to explore and understand the Christian faith and the Church Year at St. John’s. Some sessions are reflective, while others are more active.

The young people and Sunday school families regularly take part in Family Services and Festivals, reading the lesson and leading the prayers.
